Villa will still be on a high after securing their place in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, but the midfielder has insisted that the focus is firmly on performing against the Black Cats in the league this weekend.
“I am not thinking of the semi-final, all I am focused on is Sunderland and taking each game as it comes,” said Delph.
“We have been to Sunderland plenty of times and they have good fans behind them, we are going there to get three points.”
Villa are by no means out of trouble near the bottom of the table and must stay focused on pulling further clear of the bottom three.
Manager Tim Sherwood will be delighted with the way the side performed in their last two games, but he can’t let the euphoria of some of the pressure being released, affect the team looking forward.
Delph seems to embody that idea and is quickly turning into one of Sherwood’s main leaders out on the pitch.
He’ll be important in a difficult atmosphere at the Stadium of Light and will need to make sure no heads drop across the team, if Villa don’t start the game well.
However, Sherwood has had a full week to prepare the side for the match and hopefully they won’t be off the pace at the start of the game.
