Former Derby County midfielder Rory Delap says the management team at the club is going to be vital over the rest of the season.

Former Derby County midfielder Rory Delap has been quoted by the Derby Telegraph suggesting the Rams are the best team he has seen in the Championship this season.

Delap is confident of the Rams’ promotion chances this season and has highlighted the key areas of the club he feels will work to their advantage over the rest of the campaign.

“They have been by far the best team in the Championship I've seen this season,” he said.

“It's all about pressure now but I think they have got a great management team and some old heads in the dressing room.”

“They are going to need to rely on those, especially the younger lads who haven't been through these situations that often.”

Derby have just suffered a blip but if they play well and win against Norwich this weekend, they will have been through it with an automatic promotion place still up for grabs.

The other sides around Derby in the table are going to drop points and make mistakes, which suggests it’s important the Rams have learned from their lessons and play positively and play well in every game for the rest of the season.

The manager’s job is to keep the focus on one game to the next, stressing the need for his side not to get too far ahead of themselves.

The older and more experienced players in the team are important, because they are the players that everyone else will look to during difficult periods.

There are going to be games when the side is under pressure and games where the Rams could concede the first goal, which will test the metal and resolve of those older individuals.

There’s every reason to be confident.
