The rumours linking Southampton to Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin should greatly excite their supporters as he looks to be the perfect addition for their current model.
Austin has scored 15 times for QPR this season and if Southampton had a striker as potent as him, they surely would have secured a top-four place by now.
The Saints have utilised Graziano Pelle as their main man up top in the 2014/15 campaign, but the Italian's form has tailed off after a blistering start.
It means that Austin looks like a serious upgrade and having a forward as deadly as him to put the finishing touches on their often mesmeric build-up play would make them one of the most dangerous sides in the country.
Southampton have a large number of creative players in their squad, but they lack a clinical finisher and Austin would certainly have the credentials to fill that void.

Austin has averaged over four shots per game in a QPR team that doesn't carry anywhere near as much attacking threat as Southampton and he would surely thrive off the service that he would receive at St. Mary's.
He also fits in well with their ethos. Southampton have built a squad around a core of English talent and Austin would only further add to their homegrown identity.
He, therefore, looks like the addition to push the Saints on to the next level and with players of his quality potentially arriving, Ronald Koeman looks set to ensure that his side's top-four challenge is not just a one season wonder.
