What does the future hold for Manchester United's four reserve stars?

Manchester United fielded a strong U21 side in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday but what does the future hold for their four reserve stars?

Radamel Falcao

Falcao has struggled to find any sort of form since moving on loan to United from Monaco on deadline day last summer. The Colombian has scored just four times since the switch but it was still a surprise to see him playing for the under-21s.

With big games against top four rivals Tottenham and Liverpool to come and Robin van Persie out injured, the fact Falcao played in this game means United will surely not be splashing out £40million+ to acquire him permanently.

After Antonio Valencia’s error led to Arsenal knocking United out of the FA Cup on Monday night, seeing Rafael play for the under-21s was quite baffling as he is Louis van Gaal’s only natural right-back.

The Brazilian scored his side’s equaliser on the night but has fallen out of favour this season. He has plenty of work to do to break back into the first team and like Falcao, could be heading out of the Old Trafford exit door this summer.

Victor Valdes

Valdes was a January acquisition for United and is almost guaranteed to be at Old Trafford next season. The only question mark against him is whether he will remain as David de Gea’s deputy or become first choice should his fellow Spaniard leave the club this summer.

James Wilson

Wilson is held in extremely high regard by United and is seen as the future of the club. The young English striker has a great deal of potential and offers Van Gaal an alternative option should he require some youthful energy. Wilson is a major part of the manager’s long-term plans at United.
