Goal.com has reported that Southampton aren’t confident that Jay Rodriguez will sign a new deal to stay at the club.
The injured forward has been struggling with injuries throughout the season and Goal suggests that Charlie Austin of QPR is being lined up as a potential replacement.
Where Rodriguez will go if he doesn’t sign a new deal is difficult to predict, but the Guardian reported last summer that Tottenham Hotspur were interested.
Whether Tottenham will be interested in making a move for the forward when he’s not played for so long is debatable and there is reason to suggest that they have moved on.
It’s also reasonable to suggest that the Saints can’t be blamed if they don’t put the offer of a new contract to the player.
They have stuck by him and been loyal for a very long time, but Saints boss Ronald Koeman may feel as though the side have moved on.
Several clubs have been linked with Austin and if the report of Southampton’s interest is accurate, it could be difficult for them to get their hands on the forward.
