Report: New club emerges as favourites to sign Jordan Rhodes

Middlesbrough are reportedly ahead of Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich City and Derby County in the race for Blackburn Rovers' Jordan Rhodes.

According to the Gazette, Middlesbrough are now favourites to land Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes.

The local paper claims that Middlesbrough have already agreed a deal with Blackburn to land Rhodes on a loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

If that is correct, it will be a bitter blow for a number of other Championship sides who have also been heavily linked with Rhodes over the course of the past week.

Nottingham Forest were said to be keen on buying Rhodes by the Nottingham Post, whilst their local rivals Derby County had their interest reported by the Derby Telegraph.

Sports Mole also suggested that Norwich City and Sheffield Wednesday were keen on the in-demand front-man, as they looked to strengthen their respective ranks.

Rhodes has been one of the deadliest finishers in the Football League for a number of seasons and he appears to guarantee goals for whoever signs him.

His goalscoring record at Huddersfield Town and Blackburn has been hugely impressive and it is no surprise to see interest in his services mounting.

If Middlesbrough could sign him he would be quite a coup for the North East side, as they look to ensure they make it into the automatic promotion places.

Boro are currently locked on 66 points at the top of the Championship, alongside three other sides, and they will be hoping that Rhodes gives them the edge over their promotion rivals for the final push.
