Manchester United's alleged summer transfer plans have made the newspapers today.
According to a report from the Telegraph, Manchester United are in for a very busy summer, with at least four new players tipped to arrive and up to 10 current stars tipped for the Old Trafford exit.
United were extremely active in last season’s summer transfer window, bringing in Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao. But they still remain some way off their best and another splurge looks likely in the close-season.
The report claims United manager Louis van Gaal will be given the funds to sign at least four new players, with Nathaniel Clyne, Aymeric Laporte, Mats Hummels, Kevin Strootman, Edinson Cavani and Danny Ings all said to be on the club’s radar.
As for likely departures, the report claims Phil Jones, Javier Hernandez, Rafael, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are among those who could be sold.
Some of the names make sense, with Hernandez unlikely to have much of a future at Old Trafford having been so swiftly sent on loan in favour of youngster James Wilson. But Jones may rightly feel aggrieved to be included on the paper’s list and he could yet become an integral member of United’s side.
Strootman would be a wonderful addition but his recent injury setback does leave questions over his long-term fitness, while Hummels would be a perfect, if belated, replacement for Rio Ferdinand.
