Report: Ex-Liverpool boss planning to raid Reds for striker

Rafa Benitez is currently in charge of Napoli, and he is reportedly keen on signing one of Liverpool’s strikers.

Benitez is held in high regard at Anfield having enjoyed a productive spell on Merseyside in the mid-2000s.

His reputation was somewhat tarnished with a short stay at Chelsea, but when he left Stamford Bridge he linked up with Serie A club Napoli.

He has been something of a success with the Italian club, although he was never going to truly be able to challenge Juventus for the league title. Despite strengthening his playing squad with some top European talent, work still needs doing on his team - and the Spanish coach has been linked with making a move for one current Liverpool striker.

As reported by TMW, Napoli are interested in signing outcast Reds striker Mario Balotelli, who has not been the success many expected upon his arrival at Anfield. 24 games have brought a measly return of just four goals, and it looks as if he could be heading away from England in the summer.

Having signed the Italian international for a reported £16 million, as per the BBC, it would be considered a failure if he left after just one season in the Premier League. However, the Reds will be actively looking to let go of Balotelli and if they can recoup a large portion of that fee from Napoli, then the Merseyside club should be considered the winners of any transfer business between the two clubs.
