Real Madrid players were berated with slurs and insults by fans as they left the Santiago Bernabeu stadium following Tuesday evening’s 4-3 Champions League loss to Schalke 04.
Real Madrid put in one of their worst performances against Schalke 04, allowing four goals in European competition for the first time since 2000 and were met with a wall of criticism as they left the parking garage.
Inside the stadium, Iker Casillas, Gareth Bale and Sami Khedira were targeted the most and things weren’t any different after the match, as they were met with the most and harshest insults.
A video on Spanish publication AS's website shows the Madrid players being heckled as they left the stadium.
Khedira, who has been linked with a move to Schalke when his contract with Los Blancos expires this summer, was told my one fan to “die” before being told to “go to Schalke, dog.”
Gareth Bale quickly exited the garage to jeers of “f****** Welshman” while Real Madrid youth product Nacho was called an embarrassment.
Ironically, defenders Pepe and Marcelo were universally applauded by the fans crowding the sidewalks, with cheers of praise and adulation for their gutsy performance in an embarrassing loss which saw the defence give up four goals.
