Celtic midfielder Stefan Johansen has explained in the Herald why he feels Scott Brown is the perfect captain for the team.
Brown has turned into a pivotal player for Ronny Deila and is vital to their chances of success on multiple fronts this season.
“We could see how important he is to the team when he was out at the start of the season. He's a great player and a fantastic captain for the team,” said Johansen.
“He gives it out but he takes it back - it's just part of his game. Broony is the kind of player you are glad to have on your side. When we played Scotland I was injured so I was kind of happy not to face him.”
Brown does have a very aggressive approach to games and that gives him a commanding presence in the middle of the team, which he uses to his advantage.
He’s very effective starting games quickly to try and win the ball back and demands the very best from all of the players around him.
He showed last weekend against Dundee United in the Scottish Cup that he’s not afraid to get involved in confrontations, sticking up for himself and the team when he feels they have been hard done by.
He’s also got a great deal of experience as a Celtic player and will be an important figure looking ahead to the League Cup final and beyond in terms of ensuring everyone stays calm and collected in the build up to the game.
Celtic are the favourites this weekend but if Dundee United get ahead, Brown has a big role to play in ensuring that everyone stays focused and determined to fight their way back into the team.
It’s a great challenge for him, the whole side and hopefully there will be many more to come.
