Will Tottenham Hotspur part company with some midfielders before bringing anyone new this summer?
According to a report from Foot Mercato earlier this week, Tottenham Hotspur have invited Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot and his family to tour the club’s training facilities.
The problem with any potential move for Rabiot is a simple one: Tottenham already have a number of midfielders, some of whom will surely have to be moved on before the 19-year-old could arrive.
While Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb are now rightly regarded as Tottenham’s first-choice midfield pairing, Mauricio Pochettino also has Mousa Dembele, Etienne Capoue, Paulinho and Benjamin Stambouli to call on if required.
And certainly when it comes to Capoue and Paulinho, their time in North London could be coming to an end.
The pair have made just 23 Premier League appearances between them this season, with the Frenchman playing 12 times and the Brazilian featuring on 11 occasions.
Capoue started the season as a first-team regular but he has played just 21 minutes of league football in the last 17 matches.
Paulinho has been used more recently but his time at White Hart Lane may be coming to an end.
Certainly, if Tottenham remain interested in Rabiot, there will have to be a rethink regarding their current midfielders, with plenty of changes likely this summer.
