Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker has hailed the performance of Paris Saint-Germain against Chelsea on social networking site Twitter.
French champions PSG have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of Premier League outfit Chelsea.
The last-16 tie between the two teams ended 3-3 on aggregate, and PSG have gone through on away goals rule.
The first leg in Paris last month had ended in a 1-1 draw, and the second leg at Stamford Bridge this evening finished 2-2.
It was a truly brave performance from PSG, who played almost all of the match with 10 men following the controversial dismissal of Zlatan Ibrahimovic just past the half-hour mark.
Gary Cahill put Chelsea in the lead in the 81st minute, but five minutes later David Luiz made it 1-1 to take the tie into extra time.
Eden Hazard restored the Blues’ advantage from the penalty spot six minutes into the extra-time period, but Thiago Silva made it 2-2 with six minutes remaining on the clock.
Tottenham legend Lineker was following the match, and he was impressed with the performance of PSG.
Extraordinary performance from PSG. To play with 10 men for an hour and a half without their best player and overcome Chelsea is a triumph.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) March 11, 2015
Another Tottenham legend Osvaldo Ardiles was watching tonight’s game, and he was far from impressed with Chelsea’s display.
Very very poor performance for Chelsea, so defensive. Pity to see such a wonderful array of players playing so negative. Best team won— osvaldo ardiles (@osvaldooardiles) March 11, 2015
In fact, Chelsea were very defensive vs us in the Cup final. The 4 defenders plus the defensive midfielder never cross the half way line— osvaldo ardiles (@osvaldooardiles) March 11, 2015
Arsenal prospect Isaac Hayden, too, had his say on the performance of PSG.
