Everton star makes ambitious statement about their European chances

Everton forward Steven Naismith believes Everton can win the Europa League.

Steven Naismith has suggested that Everton have the belief that they can win the Europa League at a press conference today.

The Toffees have progressed well in Europe and face Dynamo Kiev on Thursday night in the first-leg of their last 16 tie.

Naismith is confident of success, with the Scot revealing that the whole squad believe that they can be victorious in the competition come May.

Everton's form in Europe has contrasted wildly to what they have shown in the Premier League, where they have struggled.

The Toffees are in danger of being dragged into a relegation fight in domestic action, and their European run has been a welcome distraction as a result.

It hasn't necessarily been for the best, though, with Naismith admitting that the side still need to learn how to balance playing in the Europa League and performing well in the Premier League.

If Everton do make it through to the next round, they will need to ensure that their progress does not have a negative impact on their league standing.

Roberto Martinez's side have to start acclimatising to their relentless schedule because they can ill-afford any more slip-ups.

European success will be tarnished if it does mean that they lose their Premier League status and Martinez needs to work out a formula which gets the best out of his side in both competitions.
