The Premier League's leader in assists was unable to help Chelsea beat PSG in their Champions League clash.
An extra-time header from Brazilian international Thiago Silva sent Chelsea out on away goals, leaving big questions about Jose Mourinho's side.
Was their easy ride in the Premier League to blame for a lack of intensity and complacency at home to the French champions, or did the players simply show they are not as good as everybody thought?
A player who now does have questions to answer is Spanish international midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
The star was signed from Barcelona in the summer in a surprise transfer move, and has racked up 15 assists in the Premier League alone.
Yet against PSG he was ineffective, creating just one chance and failing to attempt a single shot on goal.
Arsenal were the side to pass up on signing their former club captain in the summer, much to the surprise of their fans, a decision which looked even worse when he signed for rivals Chelsea.
He looks set to finish the season with a Premier League winners medal, but the way he 'went missing' against PSG did not go unnoticed by fans of the Gunners.
Fabregas was unable to lead Arsenal to any silverware during his captaincy at the club, failing to prove if he had the temperament to lift his side over the threshold in the big games. Chelsea's failure to win against PSG showed any concerns over his mentality are not just created out nothing, but there could be a real concern there.
Cesc will need a strong end to the season to prove his doubters wrong, with his form dipping considerably in recent weeks. Here is how fans of his former side Arsenal reacted to his performance...

I think Fabregas is eligible to play for Arsenal against Monaco, he hasn't played a minute of Champions League football this season has he?— 7amkickoff (@7amkickoff) March 11, 2015

Cesc Fabregas has brought his bottling mentality from Arsenal to Barcelona and now to Chelsea. Unreal.— Dan Chapman. (@iDanTheGunner) March 11, 2015
