Swansea City defender Jordi Amat has explained to the South Wales Evening Post the main reason he signed a new contract with the club.
The defender has committed himself to the Welsh club until 2018 and his deal follows news of an extended contract for Angel Rangel, which spells out superb news for the Swans.
“It's a very exciting time to be part of this club. The team, the staff, the club — it's a big family here and I really like that,” said Amat.
“This is hopefully just the start. It's getting better every year at the club, we are achieving more and more.”
Regardless of the reason for the deal, it’s great news for the club because it means another important defensive player tied down.
That spells continuity for manager Garry Monk as he looks to develop the side looking ahead to next season.
Swansea’s chances of starting next season in positive fashion are made more likely by the fact the club will have a familiar core of players running through the spine of the side.
The challenge for Amat, Rangel and any other Swansea player who signs a new deal before the end of the season is to pay back the faith shown in them by the club.
They need to carry on developing and challenging themselves to become better players over relying and falling back on the security of their new deals.
