Steve Evans praises Derby youngster Farrend Rawson

Rotherham boss Steve Evans has been left purring over the potential of a Derby County youngster.

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has suggested via the Derby Telegraph that Derby County have produced a big talent in the form of Farrend Rawson.

The defender is currently on loan with Evans’ side and he’s been left purring over the initial impact of the Derby owned player following his loan move.

“To go into the Championship at 18, to go away from home in front of a great crowd - because that is what Huddersfield have got, a passionate crowd - and do as well as he did is wonderful,” said Evans.

“Faz is a young man who sticks his neck out and gets his head on things - He's brave and he'll get his head cut off to head it.”

One of the things that Derby boss Steve McClaren will be looking for with any player on loan away from the club this season is progression and the identification of potential for when a player returns to the club.

He’ll want their character to expand and grow in a positive way, which benefits the Rams over the next few seasons.

Hopefully for Derby’s sake, Rawson can stay in Rotherham’s side over the rest of the season and can continue to impress.

Derby are still looking in good shape in terms of the promotion race for the Premier League and it would be fantastic for any younger player to return to the club ahead of that challenge.

However, it’s a risk for McClaren to form his defence next season including such a young and inexperienced young man, but there’s no reason Rawson can’t play well and earn himself a higher profile loan move looking ahead to the next campaign.
