7 games, 0 minutes: Highly-rated Liverpool loanee's future looks dubious

Andre Wisdom

Andre Wisdom's future at Liverpool could be thrown into doubt after being dropped by West Bromwich Albion.

Ex-England Under-21 captain Andre Wisdom has recently found himself out of the West Brom starting line-up. Here, we take a look at what it could mean for his long-term future at Liverpool.

Since Wisdom was substituted early in the second half against Spurs on the last day of January, the bulky right-back has only featured as an unused sub in Tony Pulis' side and now looks out-of-favour with just 10 games of the season remaining.

After a positive loan spell at Derby County last season, where he played a big part in their promotion push, it was almost a given that the highly-rated defender would comfortably step up into the Premier League and hold his own. However, since Alan Irvine was sacked, his place in the side has looked in doubt and now he has lost his spot to the impressive Craig Dawson.

What does this mean for his long-term future at Liverpool?

Wisdom, while impressive on loan at Derby in the Championship, has clearly found life more difficult in a side that is often asked to soak up a lot of pressure in the Premier League.

Although it's uncertain what Brendan Rodgers will have planned for the Leeds-born defender, it's safe to say his loan spell in the West Midlands will have done him very few favours.

The Reds' aim for next season will be to once again challenge for the Premier League title, like they did last season, so the Northern Irish manager's decision on the 21-year-old could be ruthless.

Nevertheless, even if he is made available, logic would suggest the ex-England youth defender could land another side in the Premier League due to his previously lofty reputation.

It's not an exact science and sometimes for a player it doesn't work out at a certain club. Wisdom could still be a desirable target for many sides in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
