The Magpies are reportedly considering a £5 million summer bid for the highly-rated Levante midfielder.
Camarasa, 20, has made 20 total appearances in his first full season with Levante’s senior team, recording two goals and an assist in the process, and his impressive performances in the holding role are said to have caught the attention of Newcastle scouts.
Long-considered one of La Liga’s top prospects, both Barcelona and Real Madrid were reported to be interested in his signature last season, per Mundo Deportivo, but the Spain Under-21 international has so far remained committed to his current club.
However, with Levante experiencing financial issues and also facing the threat of relegation, the Valencia-based outfit could well be forced to sell one of their prized assets come the end of the campaign.
According to SuperDeporte, though, Newcastle are not the lone Premier League club chasing Camarasa’s signature, with Tottenham Hotspur also sending scouts to watch him in action in last week’s 2-1 win over Eibar.
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino appears to be setting a trend of targeting emerging talents since arriving at White Hart Lane, with the likes of Eric Dier, DeAndre Yedlin and Dele Alli all snapped up, and Camarasa could be the next name to add to that list.
Newcastle, meanwhile, also seem to making more of an effort to explore the Spanish market in recent months following the signing of striker Ayoze Perez, and were claimed to have been in talks with Racing Santander forward David Concha this winter, per the Chronicle.
With Jack Colback, Mehdi Abeid and Moussa Sissoko among the central midfield options at their disposal, it remains to be seen where Camarasa would fit in were he to arrive at St James’ Park but, given his promise, one would hope that the club should be able to find room.
