According to a report from ESPN, Arsenal are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic this summer.
The report cites sources which have allegedly told ESPN that the Gunners are keen to further bolster their defensive ranks, despite the January signing of Gabriel Paulista.
The Brazilian arrived from Villarreal and in his early outings he has proved to be a very canny addition.
He is currently out injured but that still leaves Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, who both impressed in the FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United on Monday.
That said, the report states that Arsenal remain on the look-out for more defensive additions, with Subotic a possibility.
The 26-year-old has made 29 appearances for Dortmund this season and has racked up a total of 236 games for the Bundesliga side in total.
But it remains to be seen if the Serbian international would move on without the guarantee of regular starts, which would not be the case at Arsenal if all three of their current senior centre-backs remained.
That said, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger saw what injuries and suspensions can do to a back-line earlier this season and he will not want that to happen again.
For that reason alone he is likely to strengthen further, but barring a complete defensive reshuffle with Gabriel partnering Subotic next season it is unlikely the latter would agree to a move without certain assurances.
