Krystian Bielik was named in Arsenal's under-21 starting line-up for the first time since signing.
The Polish teenager made the switch from Legia Warsaw in January, where he had even made the first team and featured in the Europa League.
He is yet to make a senior appearance for Arsenal, and previously had only been in action for the under-18 side.
His selection against Derby County's under-21 side on Tuesday evening is an encouraging sign as he settles into what he hopes will become a successful career in North London.
Bielik is a defensive midfielder, a position in which Arsenal are expected to strengthen further this summer despite the progress of Francis Coquelin.
If Bielik can show positive early signs however, he may yet convince manager Arsene Wenger that he already has his future star, and he can continue to bridge the gap with Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini for a little longer.
