Liverpool media round-up, contract latest on duo, Blackburn man on Skrtel challenge

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Tuesday morning.

Liverpool defender Glen Johnson is still keen to reach an agreement over a new contract at the club according to the Daily Mail.

Johnson's current deal runs out at the end of the season, and despite saying earlier on in the campaign that he wouldn't 'go crawling' to the club over a new deal, he still remains keen to extend his stay on Merseyside.

This follows news yesterday that he has been in talks with clubs from abroad, with Roma said to be interested according to the report.

The Mail has also reported that Liverpool are to offer Joe Allen a new long-term deal. The midfielder currently has two years left to run on his current deal, but the Reds are keen to tie the Welshman down to a new contract.

Blackburn Rovers forward Rudy Gestede has been speaking about the challenge that left Martin Skrtel on the ground for around eight minutes of Sunday's FA Cup tie at Anfield, and despite the Slovakian coming off second best, he criticised the defender for a 'naughty challenge'.

He's quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “It was a naughty challenge from him in the air but when he landed on the floor he was unconscious for a while.

“I called the medical team straight away. His eyes weren’t there, he was lost."

The winner of the replay will face Aston Villa in the semi-final of the competition at Wembley.

Finally, Mamadou Sakho gave Liverpool a fitness boost by getting some game time in the under-21 Merseyside derby at Chester.

Liverpool won 2-1 courtesy of a late Harry Wilson strike and Sakho played 45 minutes of the game, as planned. According to the Liverpool Echo's live blog, he was enjoying the encounter so much he had to be 'torn off' as he recovers from a hip injury.
