Gallery: Manchester United's trophy challenge dies as Arsenal march on in FA Cup

Arsenal made it through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup with their first win at Old Trafford since 2006.

Arsenal recorded their first win over Manchester United since May 2011, and their first at Old Trafford in eight and a half years with a 2-1 win in their FA Cup quarter-final tie last night.

Nacho Monreal was the unlikely first goalscorer - finding the net for only the second time during his time at the club - before Wayne Rooney headed home Angel Di Maria's cross minutes later which ensured the two sides were level at half time.

The winning goal came around the hour mark courtesy of former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck who capitalised on a poor back pass from Antonio Valencia to round David De Gea and put the visitors back in front. Unlike players from the past and with other clubs, Welbeck celebrated his goal after he was sold in the summer with Louis van Gaal making him surplus to requirements.

Were it not for a couple of fine saves from De Gea it could have been worse for United as he denied both Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez. It didn't get much better for Manchester United as Di Maria was sent off for touching referee Michael Oliver after being booked for a dive, while Adnan Januzaj was also booked for simulation.

Arsenal's reward is a place in the last four against lower league opposition of either Bradford City or Reading, while United have gone two seasons without a major a trophy for the first time since the 1980's - with a place in the Premier League's top four their aim between now and the end of the season.
