Courtois has been exceptional for the Blues this season, but he has been helped in part by the work of the defensive unit set up in front of him, and he has told RMC Sport that there is one Blues player who can become one of the best in the world.
John Terry is playing some of the best football of his career despite his advancing years, while there was a suitable replacement for Gary Cahill when the England international started putting in a series of questionable performances.
Young Frenchman Kurt Zouma came into the starting XI for high-intensity ties with Liverpool and Manchester City, and his impressive performances did much to improve the squad depth on show at Stamford Bridge. The 20-year-old centre-half is already becoming a key member of the first-team and, although signed from abroad, he has endeared himself to the Chelsea fans as part of a bright new future at the club.
In 18 appearances this season the youngster has helped keep clean sheets against some of the best strikers in England, while he also filled in at defensive midfield during the League Cup Final against Tottenham Hotspur, keeping that same spot for the Premier League tie with West Ham.
There is no doubt that his long-term future will reside in the heart of the Blues defence, and most likely the France back-line, and Courtois has told RMC Sport that the youngster can become one of the best defenders in the world.
Quoted by the French media outlet, Courtois said: “Zouma has a lot of talent. He is strong. He has a truly exceptional relaxation. He is incredibly tall, he plays well with the feet.
“He will further grow and improve. I think he can become one of the best defenders in the world if he continues like this. He really is a very good player.”
