Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has been speaking to the club’s official website following his side’s FA Cup quarter-final stalemate with Blackburn Rovers.
The Championship side had previously eliminated Swansea City and Stoke City from the competition and while they could not make it a hat-trick of upsets they did ensure a replay at Ewood Park following a hard-fought 0-0 draw.
It could have been even worse for Liverpool had Mignolet not tipped Alex Baptiste’s header over the bar just after half-time.
And now the Belgian has been speaking about Liverpool’s defensive solidity, as well as his own return to form.
“I am happy I was able to help the team at that moment and for the rest of the game we didn’t give much away as we were very organised.”
Mignolet was dropped earlier in the season and it looked as though he may have played his last game for the Reds. But he has returned in fine fettle and he is now proving week in, week out that he deserves a starting spot at Anfield.
He has played a vital role in Liverpool’s outstanding start to 2015 and he is clearly happy, if in his own understated fashion, at the upturn in fortunes.
“I am pleased with how things are going,” he said, “both individually and with the team.”
