McClaren comments on draw, singles out Ince for criticism

Derby County boss Steve McClaren has commented on the incident which saw Tom Ince concede a penalty against Birmingham.

Derby County manager Steve McClaren has been quoted by the Derby Telegraph criticising Tom Ince after the 2-2 draw against Birmingham over the weekend.

Derby saw a two goal lead slip against Birmingham with Ince at fault during the game after a naïve decision, which cost his side a penalty.

McClaren was left frustrated after Birmingham fought their way back to draw 2-2 in the closing seconds, as the Rams saw two extra points slip away.

“It feels like a double mugging but we only have ourselves to blame. We have thrown two points away,” said McClaren.

“It was an unnecessary penalty to give away, a bad decision by Tom Ince.”

Regardless of the fact Derby have gone through a slight blip over the last couple of weeks, they are still well in the hunt for the Championship title.

It’s turning out to be a very bizarre promotion race, with four teams at the top of the table on 66 points.

If Derby can learn from recent setbacks and respond in the right manner looking ahead to their next game, they can build a little momentum and create a little gap at the top of the table.

What McClaren has to do is ensure that there are no further basic and avoidable errors coming from his key players in all positions.

Ince made a mistake and Derby made a mistake. They now have to react in the right fashion and see out the match the next time they have a lead.
