Manchester United latest: Early team news; Giggs speaks about Di Maria

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United may be focusing on a top-four finish this season – and the Champions League qualification that would follow – but they also have the not so small matter of a FA Cup quarter-final against Arsenal this evening.

In early team news, the BBC reports that Robin van Persie remains on the side-lines due to an ankle injury while defender Jonny Evans starts his six-match suspension after he was banned for spitting.

In other news, United’s assistant manager Ryan Giggs has defended the club’s record-signing Angel Di Maria after the Argentine’s dip in form.

In comments published by the Express, the former Welsh international said, “He’s a quality player and we’ll be looking for him to produce because it is big game after big game now.

“Players get used to different leagues, sometimes quickly and sometimes it takes a bit of time.”

Di Maria was brilliant in his first few matches for United, scoring some sublime goals and looking every inch the superstar the club was crying out for.

But he has been unable to continue that form and he has looked out of sorts for quite some time now.

With Arsenal in the cup and a number of tough matches in the league coming up, United fans will be hoping he rediscovers some of his magic quickly.
