One of Manchester United's Spanish stars has been talking about another.
Writing in his weekly blog, the Spanish international reserved special praise for his countryman after the summer signing was crowned United’s Player of the Month for February.
Herrera signed for United from Athletic Bilbao in the summer, but while he impressed in his early appearances for the club, injuries and a prolonged spell on the bench robbed him of plenty of game-time.
He has now put that behind him to become a regular and effective starter for United, and Mata for one was pleased with his award.
Congratulating Herrera on his award, the United play-maker said, “He is a great footballer and a better friend, so needless to say how happy I am for him.”
While Mata was the player providing the goals and the assists earlier in the campaign, his United teammate has now taken over that mantle and it will be interesting to see if manager Louis van Gaal can ultimately find a way to play both Spaniards in the same starting line-up consistently and effectively.
