Sunderland fans express their disbelief on Twitter after Jozy Altidore's Toronto debut

Jozy Altidore

The former Sunderland striker netted twice for Toronto - including a Panenka penalty!

It was bound to happen, wasn't it?

Jozy Altidore, the man many Sunderland fans branded the worst player they have ever seen, scored twice on his first game for MLS side Toronto FC - including a calm and composed Panenka penalty.

It was all in the script: a dream debut for the 25-year-old.

And Sunderland fans couldn't believe their eyes on Twitter after they heard the news. Naturally, Altidore starts scoring as soon as he leaves the Black Cats...

But most Sunderland supporters didn't seem fooled. Unfortunately for the MLS, Altidore's performance might just be more of a reflection of the weakness of the US league than it is the forward's ability.

In the Premier League, Altidore simply couldn't settle, rarely ever scoring and missing howler after howler.

The 25-year-old perhaps wasn't confident enough at Sunderland, of course, meaning he may just have talent after all - but just couldn't show it at the Stadium of Light.

Most fans, however, don't regret selling Altidore at all - and are still in a state of disbelief about how his Toronto career has begun. Will it continue? And what does it mean for the state of the MLS if it does?

Here's the best Sunderland reaction on Twitter to the striker's goalscoring debut...
