The Whites made it two wins in two in the Championship when they got the better of Wigan Athletic 1-0 away from home.
Alex Mowatt’s goal in the opening minutes of the second half proved to be the difference between the two teams at the DW Stadium.
The 20-year-old midfielder found the target in the 51st minute from the edge of the Latics penalty box.
Wigan had chances throughout the 90 minutes, but Neil Redfearn’s side did enough to pick up all the three points.
Former Leeds striker Whelan was watching the game, and he was delighted with the final result and the performance of the Whites, singling out Mowatt for special praise for his brilliant strike.

Victory over Wigan has lifted Leeds up to 13th in the Championship table with 47 points from 36 matches.
It now looks that the West Yorkshire outfit will finish the season in mid-table, although one suspects that they will try to push for a top-10 spot.
