Michael Owen predicts Liverpool v Blackburn Rovers

Michael Owen looks ahead to Sunday’s FA Cup tie between Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers at Anfield.

Michael Owen has written in his Betvictor.com column that Liverpool will win the FA Cup quarter-final tie against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.

Premier League outfit Liverpool will take on Blackburn at Anfield and will be huge favourites to progress to the semi-finals.

Former Liverpool striker Owen has backed Brendan Rodgers’s side to get the better of the Championship club.

The Reds have a very impressive record in quarter-finals having qualified for the semis on 15 of the last 16 times they have reached the last eight,” the 35-year-old wrote on Betvictor.com.

“I would be shocked if Rovers were able to stem the Liverpool tide and can’t see past another victory for Brendan Rodgers’ side.”

Could Liverpool slip up?

Anything other than a win for Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday will be a shock, but then again, the FA Cup is full of surprises.

Blackburn, who are set to finish in mid-table in the Championship table this season, will head into Sunday’s tie on the back of a 2-1 away win against Sheffield Wednesday.

Gary Bowyer’s side will be pumped up to register a famous win at Anfield, and they should not be dismissed rightaway.

If Blackburn can get an early goal, then things will get tricky for Merseyside outfit Liverpool.

Interestingly, Owen has also made a bold comment about Liverpool. The former England international believes that the Reds are the best side left in the competition.

“Liverpool are the best side left in the competition, certainly on current form, and the bet of the weekend must be for the Reds to go all the way and win their eighth FA Cup fifty years after they landed the first,” wrote the former Newcastle United striker.

“Steven Gerrard’s last appearance for the Reds to be in a Wembley Final? Just who writes his scripts?”

Liverpool best team left in FA Cup?

Based on current form, perhaps yes, Liverpool are the best team, but that does not necessarily mean that they will win the FA Cup.

The winners of the Monday’s tie between Manchester United and Arsenal should be considered as one of the top two favourites.

Like Liverpool, Arsenal are also in form, but under manager Louis van Gaal, United have proved that they can pick up points without playing exceptionally well.

if the Red Devils defeat Arsenal and progress to the semi-finals, then they should be considered as one of the top favourites to win the FA Cup.
