If there was any doub as to whether Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb should be Tottenham's first-choice central midfield pairing before the north London side's 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers, there shouldn't have been.
Against QPR, the midfielders produced another astute performance each - and, aside from Harry Kane's goals, they may just be the single most important factor in Tottenham's bid to reach the Premier League top four.
Not only are both performing to a high standard for Spurs, though, they are raising their game and, in some cases, finding new facets to it.
|Tackles Won||Minutes Played|
As Opta stats show, for example, Ryan Mason won more tackles than anyone at Loftus Road against QPR (5). The 23-year-old has done so before - but only once (against Aston Villa) - meaning this was a joint-season's best tally from the midfield man.
|Headers Won||Minutes Played|
Even more intriguing was the fact Bentaleb won more headers than anyone one else in west London (6). That tally dwarfs his previous best (3) and shows just how much he is developing his all-round game.
While Kane gets the goals, then, and Hugo Lloris makes the saves, take Bentaleb and Mason out of this Tottenham team right now and Spurs won't be anywhere near the same level.
