Leeds United fans rave about Alex Mowatt, but have concerns on his future

West Ham United are reportedly interested in Leeds United’s Alex Mowatt, while Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was at Saturday’s game against Wigan Athletic.

Leeds United made it two wins out of two in the Championship on Saturday when they got the better of Wigan Athletic 1-0 away from home.

The Whites headed into the clash at the DW Stadium on the back of a 2-1 victory over promotion-chasing Ipswich Town at Elland Road.

After a goalless first half, Leeds took the lead in the opening minutes of the second period when Alex Mowatt found the target.

The 20-year-old midfielder broke the deadlock in the 51st minute with a left-footed effort from the edge of the penalty box.

Both Wigan and and Leeds had chances throughout the 90 minutes, but it was Neil Redfearn’s side who picked up the three points.

Mowatt has been one of Leeds’s best players so far this season and is one of the best young midfielders in the Championship.

The Englishman has scored seven goals and created 35 chances in 27 league appearances, while having a pass accuracy of 82% and shot accuracy of 46%.

Against Wigan on Saturday, the youngster took two shots, had a pass accuracy of 70%, created one chance, put in one cross, and made two inceptions and two blocks.

Mowatt’s performance would have probably impressed Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who was at the DW Stadium for Saturday’s game (click here to read more).

It is not known if the Northern Irishman had gone to watch the Leeds star, but The Sun, according to the West Ham Vital Football thread, has reported that West Ham United sent a scout to watch Mowatt in action against Wigan.

Given that Leeds are in the Championship and are not exactly financially strong, it is understandably that Premier League clubs will want to sign their array of young players.

Leeds fans, though, are keen on the club fending off all attempts to sign Mowatt, and took to social networking site Twitter to have their say on the matter and on the youngster’s performance against Wigan.
