Fjortoft: Bayern Munich defender Dante, linked with Manchester United a year ago, 'will be sold this summer'

The Brazilian had a weekend to forget for The Bavarians.

Almost a year ago now, in March 2014, a reported Manchester United target signed a contract extension with his current club. The player in question was Dante, who signed a new contract with Bayern Munich until the summer of 2017, with an option of another years extension.

It came amid reports in January 2014, including one in The Mirror, which claimed that Dante was a target for Manchester United under David Moyes.

The player even confirmed so himself, telling Fox Sports Brasil:

"I'm thankful for the Manchester United interest, it will all be sorted out by the end of the month."

Of course no deal ever came to fruition, but one German football expert believes the Brazilian could be on his way out of Bayern pretty soon.

Jan Age Fjortoft, known to English fans for his stints with Barnsley and Middlesbrough and revealing the Mesut Ozil to Arsenal transfer, Tweeted this yesterday - after a horror show performance from the 31-year-old in the Bundesliga:

Indeed the centre-back was in terrible form and was pulled by Pep Guardiola in the 32nd minute, with Robert Lewandowski replacing him.

Fjortoft may be jumping the gun. Guardiola's side were drawing 1-1 at the time and were struggling their tie with Hannover. The switch saw them change formations and they eventually went on to win the game 3-1.

However Dante's removal may indeed indicate a lack of faith in his talents from Guardiola and with Holger Badstuber impressing since his return to injury and Javi Martinez approaching full fitness Dante might just get the chop in the summer.

The only question then will be, do Manchester United want him?
