Renowned pundit Owen Hargreaves has put his allegiance to Manchester United to one side by tipping Liverpool to win this season’s FA Cup, live on BT Sport.
The former United midfielder was among the pundits covering Bradford’s 0-0 FA Cup draw with Reading when he was posed the question of who he believes will lift the trophy in May.
While arguably his heart swayed towards the Red Devils, his head pointed to Brendan Rodgers’ men as he highlighted their momentum as his reasoning for choosing them ahead of United and Arsenal.
“I think Liverpool, I think they have the momentum and I think they’re playing great football,” Hargreaves conceded.
“Brendan Rodgers deserves a tonne of credit for changing the team around to suit their needs and with Daniel Sturridge back fit, I think they are going to win it.”
The Reds face Blackburn Rovers at Anfield on Sunday and are rightfully heavy favourites to progress to the semi-finals at the expense of their Championship opponents.
With an unbeaten league run stretching back to mind-December, the Anfield outfit are in top form and fellow BT pundit Steve McManaman thinks his former side are the ‘best team’ left in the competition.
“I think Liverpool are the best team, playing the better type of football and it will be apt if Steven Gerrard lifts the trophy,” he explained.
Last year’s winners Arsenal, however, are the highest placed Premier League team left in the draw and will also see themselves as favourites for the trophy.
The Gunners travel to Old Trafford on Monday hopeful of winning there for the first time since a Cesc Fabregas-inspired 1-0 victory in 2006.
The FA Cup represents the trio’s last realistic chance of silverware for the season and it could ultimately save one of the bosses from possibly losing his job.
