The Belgian stopper was recently dropped by Reds manager Brendan Rodgers, but since his return to the side he has been in brilliant form – something Toure was quick to acknowledge.
Liverpool’s start to 2015 has been superb, and Mignolet has kept eight clean-sheets in that time; helping his side go on a fine undefeated run in the Premier League.
That spell means they are now well in contention for a top-four finish and they also remain in the FA Cup, with their quarter-final tie against Blackburn Rovers taking place on Sunday.
Ahead of that match, Toure said of Mignolet, “He’s just been working hard and now we can see what he has been doing for the team has been unbelievable.
“I think right now, he’s one of the best players in our team.”
That is quite a statement and it shows how Mignolet’s season has changed both swiftly and unexpectedly.
Philippe Coutinho, Martin Skrtel and Jordan Henderson have also all impressed in recent weeks, but Mignolet is rightfully among them as one of Liverpool’s standout players, and he will be hoping to maintain that form when he comes up against a Blackburn side hoping to cause yet another shock.
