Former Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt has been speaking to the Liverpool Echo about his imminent return to Anfield to play in a charity match.
The Netherlands international is one of the players chosen to play in the match in aid of the Liverpool FC Foundation, with the two sides to be captained by Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.
Kuyt made 286 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 71 goals and providing 40 assists in that time.
He now represents Turkish side Fenerbahce, for whom he has turned out 117 times to date, but he clearly cannot wait to step out at Anfield once more.
“To have the chance to go back one more time to Anfield, and to play with some of the teammates who I played with during my six years, will be amazing,” Kuyt said.
The Dutchman is a firm fan favourite at Liverpool and he is sure to get an excellent reception when he dons the famous shirt once more.
His work-rate was unquestionable and while he was not the goal-machine he had been in his homeland that should not detract from his outstanding contribution to a side that will never forget him.
