Match Preview: Dundee United v Celtic. Scottish Cup takes centre stage

Celtic Stands

Dundee United host Celtic in the Scottish Cup quarter finals.

To be played on Sunday 8th March 2015 at 15:30. Venue: Tannadice, Dundee.

Odds: Dundee United 6/1, Draw 15/4, Celtic 2/5

Sunday's game is the first of two meetings in seven days between the sides before they face off in the League Cup final.

Jackie McNamara’s side are without a win in their last four league games, losing their last outing 2-0 against Partick, as they continue to struggle since the departure of Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong to their weekend opponents.

The Bhoys fell to their first defeat in 11 domestic games against St Johnstone, who recorded a 1-0 win at Celtic Park on Wednesday night, and will be keen to return to winning ways and progress in the cup.

The two sides have met 16 times in the Scottish Cup, with Dundee United only winning on two occasions, once in 1949 and the other a replay in 1981 following a 0-0 draw.

The Bhoys have won the previous 13 cup meetings between the sides, most recently on the 14th April 2013, a day when Mackay-Steven scored for his old club.

Nadir Ciftci is available after having his two-match ban overturned but McNamara will be without Robbie Muirhead, who is cup-tied, and Callum Morris who has been suffering from a thigh problem since the middle of February.

Adam Matthews, John Guidetti, Kris Commons and Emilio Izaguirre are all doubts for Celtic, while long-term injury pair Charlie Mulgrew and Mikael Lustig are both still unavailable.

Ex-Dundee United players Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong are both cup-tied.
