Wenger suggests main reason van Gaal has struggled at United

Angry Louis van Gaal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested why he thinks Louis van Gaal has struggled at Manchester United.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger suggested a reason for Louis van Gaal’s struggles at Manchester United in his press conference ahead of the FA Cup game between the clubs.

Van Gaal has been struggling to get the best out of his United side, which has led to some bookmakers making Arsenal favourites for their visits to Old Trafford.

Wenger has drawn a comparison between van Gaal’s situation at United and the way he started his career at Arsenal.

“We are confident. We go to Manchester United to qualify and give absolutely everything with hard work and team effort,” said Wenger.

“Manchester United have many new players. When I came here I had a stable team who were used to playing with each other.”

Wenger benefited because he didn’t have to change his personnel too drastically, just the way they played and the tactics they used.

Van Gaal had to sign several new players last summer and implement a new way for them to play.

United have been facing a double challenge as the players get used to each other and get used to van Gaal’s system.

There were several signs early in the season that they were struggling, and still do, when van Gaal urges them to play a three at the back defensive system with two wing backs.

The amazing thing is that in the Premier League, United hold one of the Champions League qualification places and do have individuals who can turn matches on their own.

For Arsenal to win this weekend they need United to have an off day, but a vibrant Old Trafford crowd and the occasion of the FA Cup is certainly going to make things interesting.
