Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United were said to be interested in signing Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has ruled out a summer departure for Alexandre Lacazette, according to quotes carried in the Chronicle from an interview with OLTV.

The Daily Mail had said that both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing the forward, but it seems the Premier League duo are set to miss out.

Lacazette has been one of Lyon's star performers this season and Aulas has confirmed that the Ligue title-chasing outfit have no desire to cash in on his talents.

“Impossible," he said, when asked whether Lacazette would leave in the summer. “He will be with us at the Stade des Lumieres and in the Champions League.”

Lacazette has netted 24 goals in 26 games this campaign and would have been a valuable addition to either Newcastle or Tottenham.

Both of the English sides are in need of bolstering their forward lines and adding a striker in such a rich vein of form would have stood them in good stead for next season.

It seems they will have to look elsewhere, though, and both teams are likely to be reflecting on their options this summer following this news.

Newcastle and Tottenham are said to be among the clubs chasing Burnley forward Danny Ings, according to the Daily Star, and more targets are sure to emerge as the summer transfer window draws ever closer.
