Stiliyan Petrov has returned to his former club Aston Villa on a coaching capacity, as confirmed on the club’s official website on Thursday.
The 35-year-old retired midfielder will work with the Premier League club’s first team under the management of Tim Sherwood.
The Bulgarian played for Villa from 2006 to 2012, when he diagnosed with acute leukaemia.
Petrov was forced to retire from professional football in May 2013, and he has now been given the chance to work in the game again.
Petrov will have some serious work to do at Villa, though, as the Villans are struggling for survival in the Premier League.
The Villans are currently 17th in the league table with 25 points from 28 matches, just three points above the relegation zone.
Following the announcement of Petrov back to Villa, the club’s fans took to social networking site Twitter to have their say.
