West Ham star Winston Reid reveals stadium switch was 'big factor' in contract renewal

The New Zealand international signed a six-and-a-half year extension to his current deal today.

West Ham fans were dealt a massive boost today when it was revealed that star defender Winston Reid had finally agreed on a contract extension with the club. The New Zealand international's expiring contract had been a cause for concern for a considerable period of time now, so the fact he has signed a new deal comes as great relief to all involved at West Ham United.

The supremely talented central defender has been in talks with West Ham for a number of months and has signed a massive six-and-a-half year contract to remain at the club.

Now he has been discussing his decision to remain. Writing on his blog with website Fanbookz he has mentioned the upcoming move to the Olympic Stadium in 2016.

He wrote on the matter:

"Moving to the Olympic Stadium was a big factor for me in staying at the club, but it wasn’t the deciding part of the deal – it was just one of many positive points. I’m looking forward to playing there, and it’s going to be a massive opportunity for us as players and fans of the club to move to such a great facility."

West Ham fans will be pleased he has decided to stay. He has become a pivotal member of the West Ham team for the past five years, since arriving from Danish side FC Midtjylland.

A Kiwi international, he caught the eye at the World Cup in South Africa four and a half years ago and has not looked back since.

West Ham fans will hope he adds plenty more appearances to the 121 games he has played for West Ham so far.
