Sheffield Wednesday lost at home to Blackburn at Hillsborough.
The Owls had gone two goals down to first half strikes from Jordan Rhodes and Adam Henley, before Maguire pulled one back to leave Rovers hanging on.
The midfielder was brought on in the 39th minute for the injured Jose Semedo, and looked by far Wednesday's most dangerous player.
He attempted five shots at goal in total, with two of those efforts on target, and also created one goalscoring chance. Maguire also made two tackles and one interception as he sought to get Wednesday back into the game.
It was a real message from the attacking midfielder that he should be back in the starting line-up, as he has been on 27 occasions in the Championship this season. The goal was his sixth of the campaign, and with Wednesday struggling for goals, his impact is not to be dismissed.
The win was a major result for Blackburn, who netted two goals with only four shots on target, and had even rotated their team around with an FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool this coming weekend.
Rovers move into the top 10 in the Championship as a result, leapfrogging Wednesday who slip to 11th, two points behind.
Here is a look at how Wednesday fans reacted to Maguire's display...
