Report: Liverpool open talks over summer deal to sign goalkeeper Marco Sportiello

Liverpool have reportedly opened negotiations with Atalanta over goalkeeper Marco Sportiello.

According to Italian football insider Gianluca Di Marzio, Liverpool have begun talks with Serie A side Atalanta over a deal to sign goalkeeper Marco Sportiello.

The Reds defeated Burnley 2-0 in the Premier League on Wednesday night, meaning Brendan Rodgers' men have now won eight of their last ten Premier League games.

With a sensational run of form, Liverpool are once again pushing for a Champions League place - but the media are already suggesting who they could sign this summer.

Portuguese newspaper Record reported earlier this week that Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho is being scouted as Steven Gerrard's possible replacement at Anfield.

Now, Italian football insider Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that the Reds have been impressed with Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Sportiello - and have already started talks with the Serie A club.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper has emerged in the Atalanta first team this season, and his performances appear to have caught Liverpool's attention, if Di Marzio is to be believed.

Liverpool could well be interested in signing a goalkeeper this summer, but the need has been eased slightly by Simon Mignolet's return to form in recent weeks.

The Belgian needs to keep up that form in the coming weeks and months, but adding real competition may be a great move from Brendan Rodgers in a bid to get the best out of Mignolet.
