Austin has been QPR's main source of goals this season and scored his 15th of the campaign against Arsenal in the R's 2-1 defeat on Wednesday night.
It was a wonderful strike and Phillips has paid tribute to his teammate today, who he says is one of the best finishers he has ever worked with.
"Up until now the best finisher I've played with was Kevin Phillips by a mile but Charlie Austin is right up there," he wrote. "He just finishes everything on the training ground and when he's through on goal, you just expect him to score. There are very few strikers you can say that about. And he can score left foot, right foot or head, too.
"He's come from the bottom and done it so quickly and it's great to have someone around who has done it the hard way and who is so humble. He's always cracking jokes but when he needs to get his head down, he works so hard for the team. He just doesn't stop running throughout the 90 minutes."
Phillips' glowing endorsement of Austin's qualities show just how highly he is valued by the R's and it is not surprising, considering the consistently excellent standard of his performances while at Loftus Road.
Austin is a major reason that QPR were able to make it into the Premier League, with his goals firing them to promotion, and he will be key through to the end of the campaign as they endeavour to cement their top flight status.
At the moment Chris Ramsey's men are in 18th place and three points adrift of making it out of the drop-zone.
It is a worrying position and they simply cannot afford to let the gap grow any bigger in the coming weeks, otherwise they are in danger of being cast adrift.
