Manchester United remain in fourth thanks to a late goal from Ashley Young

One does wonder just how big last night's result will be on Manchester United's season. Ashley Young's 89th minute strike recorded United's fourth victory away from home in the Premier League this season as they hold on to fourth place.

It was a crucial victory for United with all of the sides around them winning this week as they remain two points ahead of Liverpool, and just one point behind third-place Arsenal.

It was a tough game for them against Newcastle, who had an early penalty appeal waved away - though Magpies boss John Carver thought his home side should have been awarded a spot-kick, while the second half saw the best of both goalkeepers as Tim Krul and David De Gea made a string of fine saves between them as both sides went in search of a winner.

The goal came in bizarre circumstances as Newcastle only had themselves to blame, with Krul unexpectedly receiving the ball and trying to clear it, only to find Young who slotted home to give the visitors all three points.

There was one big piece of good news for Newcastle, as Jonas Gutierrez made his first appearance for the first team after recovering from testicular cancer.

However, the game was overshadowed by an incident between Papiss Cisse and Jonny Evans as they seemed to tangle with each other, then spit at each other - a story which has made a few back pages of the newspapers.

Here are some of the best images from last night's game:
