Five things we learned about Tottenham's win over Swansea

WH Lane

Tottenham Hotspur's performance against Swansea last night told us a number of things.

Tottenham Hotspur fought their way to a 3-2 win against Swansea last night, which allowed Mauricio Pochettino’s team to keep the pressure up in the race for a top four place.

Here are five things we learned about Tottenham last night.

No League Cup hangover

It should be encouraging for Spurs fans that there were no signs of a hangover from the League Cup final. The focus has switched and changed quickly and the manager deserves credit for ensuring that the squad isn’t transfixed on the disappointment of last weekend.

Townsend edging ahead of Lamela

Andros Townsend seems to be edging ahead of Erik Lamela for a wide position in the side. Townsend was on the pulse last night and put in one of his better performances. His pace and skill when dribbling at high speed is superb.

Rose answering questions

Danny Rose did well to answer a few questions last night over his position ahead of Ben Davies at left-back. He was arguably the best player on the pitch, which will do his confidence a world of good in terms of his defensive and attacking game.

Questions over Vertonghen

The Belgian showed good leadership skills last night, but he looked unusually flustered when presented with a challenge by the Swansea attack. It will be interesting to see whether the boss whips him out of the side for a little rest.

Bentaleb’s strength

Nabil Bentaleb didn’t have a great game last night but his core strength seems to be improving. He’s starting to look a bit like Mousa Dembele in the respect that he’s becoming difficult to get the better of when he gets into physical duels against other players.
