West Ham United defender James Collins has told the club’s website he thought Kevin Nolan was superb in the defeat against Chelsea last night.
Nolan returned to the starting line-up for the game and had a decent game, with his experience and leadership skills on full display during the match.
Collins has praised his skipper, suggesting he led by example against the best team in the country at the moment.
“I thought he was superb. He started off well. First minute he's chasing balls down, he didn't stop all night,” said Collins.
“The energy he showed and fitness was frightening and obviously to see that from your captain breeds confidence.”
While the performance was an improvement on the defeat against Crystal Palace, it was still another defeat and Nolan has his work cut out to pick the team up and drive them forward over the next couple of weeks.
If he can keep his place in the side, he needs to continue leading by example in big games and trying to make a difference for the club at an important time in the season.
West Ham are only three points away from eighth place at the moment and a top eight position is exactly what they should be looking for.
However, there is real pressure to register a win which will help improve the confidence and belief in a side that was competing in the top six a few weeks ago.
It’s not just down to Nolan, every leader in West Ham’s squad needs to step up and attempt to make a difference.
