Villa’s Belgian forward claims that Tim Sherwood understands him in a way, which should allow him to have more opportunities to influence big games over the rest of the season, after he scored a last minute penalty to secure three points for Villa earlier this week.
“I think the new manager understands my situation. I think he understands that I have to be given more chances and then maybe I will start scoring more goals,” he said.
“I saw what he did with Adebayor and maybe it is a similar situation and I hope to do the same. He speaks with a lot of confidence.”
Benteke can be a central point in the Villa side as they chase Premier League safety ahead of next season.
He offers the side a real strength and presence they don’t get from any other player in their attack and they need to use that to their advantage.
The situation compared against Adebayor’s, when Sherwood was at Spurs, is similar because both players lacked confidence, which Sherwood seems to have in spades.
If Benteke can have a fraction of the impact Adebayor had when Sherwood was in charge at Tottenham, Villa shouldn’t have any problems securing safety.
Their main problem this season has been scoring goals and if Sherwood can sort out that problem quickly and find a way to improve Benteke’s consistency, there isn’t a downside.
