Manchester United winger Ashley Young struck the winning goal in the Red Devils' 1-0 win over Newcastle United, but told BT Sport that David de Gea deserved the plaudits, as quoted by the Daily Express.
United scraped past Sunderland on Saturday, and needed to beat Newcastle in order to keep up their aspirations of a Champions League place.
Arsenal beat QPR 2-1 whilst Liverpool defeated Burnley 2-0 at home, meaning United had to win in to keep pace with their rivals - especially with Southampton and Tottenham also winning this week.
It looked like it would be a frustrating night for United having failed to break Newcastle down, but they were handed a late gift when Tim Krul's clearance landed straight at the feet of Young, who passed the ball into the empty net to hand United a fortunate victory at St. James' Park.
Whilst Young will claim most of the credit for his winning goal, he told BT Sport that it was goalkeeper de Gea who excelled, with the Daily Express reporting the quotes from BT Sport's broadcast of the game.
"David de Gea was magnificent again tonight. It was a hard fought win. We knew we needed three points and got our just rewards," said Young.
De Gea won United's Player of the Year award last season, and looks set to win it again this term after a string of outstanding displays.
The Spaniard made a tough start to life in English football back in 2011, but has now established himself as one of the top goalkeepers not only in the Premier League, but also in the world - and Young's praise is just one in a long line of plaudits for the former Atletico Madrid star.
