98 touches, 76 passes: Is Jordan Henderson now Liverpool's most important player?

Liverpool FC - Seeing Is Believing - Jordan Henderson

The Reds skipper flourished once again v Burnley. Is he now Liverpool's most influential star?

A goal and an assist were far from Jordan Henderson's only contributions against Burnley on Wednesday night.

But what a goal and assist from the Liverpool captain nevertheless.

Against the Clarets, the 24-year-old yet again showed Reds fans what he is all about with a dynamic, authoritative performance. And it wasn't the first time this season, either.

As important as Liverpool's current togetherness is, Henderson is becoming a real leading star. Perhaps the club's most influential if one had to be singled out.

Joe Allen 82 10 1 1 64 4 90
Adam Lallana 75 21 0 4 47 9 90

Indeed, as Opta stats show, Henderson proved vital for the Reds against Burnley in several key areas. Only Emre Can took more touches than the midfielder, while no one completed more final-third passes.

No other Liverpool star completed more overall passes than Henderson, either, with the same applying for his 10 surges into the final third.

Granted, singling someone out in Liverpool's beautifully functioning team right now seems an exercise in futility. But, such is the 24-year-old's influence both as a skipper and the driving force in his side's midfield, you have to wonder where Brendan Rodgers' side would be without him.

The closest you can come to an answer is the deeply underwhelming Europa League display in Besiktas, where the Reds were knocked out of the Europa League. There, Liverpool were without the outstanding Philippe Coutinho, while the likes of Joe Allen and Adam Lallana are also in form at Anfield right now.

Henderson, though, was a huge miss. All of the above play their roles well - but the skipper does several roles in one. And he might just have grown into Liverpool's most important player.
